Local Mission With A Local Impact

Volunteer With My Camp of Southern Indiana

Counselors

Picture
The role as counselor is one of the most important jobs to do at camp. You may have to settle fights, go on little sleep, and show love when a camper does everything to push your buttons. But it is an experience like no other. You may also have the opportunity to lead a camper to Jesus, and see them go from despair to hope during their time at camp. You can watch them begin to laugh and dance, seek God on their own, and know you were a part of the change. You are not just babysitting your campers, you are mentoring them and developing relationships that could last for years. Counselors will be in teams of 2-3 counselors per cabin with 4-6 campers in each cabin. Each team will have one Head Counselor with 1-2 Assistant Counselors.

Apply

Counselors Requirements

  • Head Counselors must be 18 + or older
  • Assistant Counselors must be 16 + or older
  • Must be available from Sunday afternoon to Friday afternoon the week of volunteer service
  • Have a calm demeanor
  • Must love fun

Support Staff

Picture
Support Staff are the ones that make camp feel, smell, taste, and look like a little bit of heaven. Our campers are coming from very difficult home situations - and their emotions are maxed out. On top of that, many worry about not having enough food to eat, not having enough clothes, or wetting the bed at night. You are the ones that take care of all these details so that they can have a place of rest, experience grace, and receive what God has for them that week of camp. You have the opportunity to bring  a little heaven to earth.

Apply

Support Staff Requirements

  • Must be at least 14 + years or older
  • Must be available from Sunday afternoon to Friday afternoon the week(s) of service
  • Play and interact with campers
  • Willing to do dishes, clean, set up and tear down during and after camp

Green Team Leader and Counselors

You may help a 4 year old color a paper, a 10 year old memorize verses, or play in the pool with your campers! Your campers usually come from healthy homes, but they are at Camp David because their parents are volunteering in the kitchen or elsewhere, and we want to give them a fantastic camp experience! These kids need to make happy memories and grow in their relationships with Jesus at camp too! The Green Team campers can be from ages 2 to 12, and team size also varies per day (some days there are 5 kids and other days there are 8!) These dynamics make this camp program a valuable learning experience in Children’s Ministry!

Kitchen Staff

Our Kitchen crew is an amazing team of men, women, and young adults who make the delicious food that keeps ending up on the camper’s “favorite things about camp” list. There is always enough and the camp food made with loving hands is just one more aspect of camp that helps our campers feel loved and special.
Apply

  • Must have or willing to go through food safety training for service

Grandparents and Day Staff

Camp Grandparents are the camper’s and staff’s BEST FANS!! You are the ones who will praise a kid for catching a fish, tell a girl she looks beautiful in her dress, tell a counselor, “Hang in there, your patience with your campers is amazing!”, and sit beside a homesick camper. You will be on-call throughout the day for whenever a sad or mad camper needs a sitting buddy, or someone to help them with a task when they have to serve a consequence.  Camp Grandparents (or Uncles and Aunties) get to help with crafts, nature hikes, activities (like archery) and fishing. They also write letters and read books, pray, and do what grandparents do best– love on the kids.
Apply

Grandparent Requirements

  • Willing to serve one day to full week
  • Willing to be patient with camp
  • Could be called upon to sit with a camper though a zone
  • Loves to read stories and write letters to the campers
