Counselors
Counselors work in teams of 2-3 to help guide their campers through the camping program, with 2-3 campers per counselor. Counselors are not babysitters, rather they mentor and develop relationships that could last for years.
You may see your camper catch their first fireflies, have their birthday celebrated for the first time, and hear them open up about their life story and life hurts. You may also be the first person who becomes safe to a kid filled with anger and frustration. It is an experience like no other. |
Counselors Responsibilities Include:
Counselors are a by week salaried position. Please make note that the position is not tax exempt and will require appropriate W-2 and taxation records.
- Guide assigned campers through the camp experience. Be sensitive, available, and ready to listen to them.
- Participate in counselor meetings during morning rotations.
- Follow the provided daily schedules, and get your team to each location on time so they can get the whole experience, safety, and accountability.
- Please let the Counselor Coach(s) know whenever you must deal with camper quarrels or correct unacceptable attitudes and behaviors. They will coach you through it.
- Keep the energy and excitement up during the camping experience.
- Lead Team Meetings and heart-to-heart times with your campers.
- Assign Yellow Zone continues when needed to help promote safety with campers and bring Blue, Red, and Fire Zones to the Counselor Coaches and Directors.
- Plan and organize balance breaks with your co-counselor to and make the best team experience for everyone.
- You can encourage a clean cabin and space with your campers ' habits and set a good example.
- Fill out camper debrief forms, character awards, and staff debriefs at the end of the camp week.

Counselor Coach
Administration weeks include supporting the Director in dividing the teams, leading the Monday afternoon camper expectation meeting, keeping track of team points, verse challenges, tracking the zones system for both campers and counselors, leading the morning meeting for the counselors, and assuring the names and teams of the campers stay accurate and correct.
Coach led weeks include helping to match counselors with camper teams, leading the counselor expectation meeting on Monday mornings, leading the coaching one on ones with the counselors during their scheduled time, communicating with the Director any zoned behavior throughout the day, and generally floating, being a consistent and visible presence for the counselors to seek out support. Boosting and keeping up morale among the counselors is also a major part of the Counselor Coach experience.
Counselor Coaches are also responsible for managing Friday morning camper packing and debriefing the counselors Friday afternoon after the campers leave. Additionally, Counselor Coaches are asked to be a support to the Support Staff Leaders and the Birthday Party Lead on the day of the event.
Counselor Coaches are also expected to support camp program set up (Sunday afternoons), camp clean up and tear down (Friday afternoons), and to assist any finalizations of program needs through the Camp Director before being dismissed. Counselor Coaches will also be assisting in the supervision of Support Staff and volunteers to ensure proper support in place, including special activities on and off site when indicated.
This position is a 5-week summer opportunity, including camp pre-training, set up, weeks of active camp, and post-camp closing duties. 5 weeks of service may be divided up to have a one-week unpaid leave in the middle of programming. Additionally, positions include:

Support Staff Coach
Support Staff Coach are responsible for managing our nominees from Leadership Camp and any additional volunteer Support Staff into the daily schedule that makes camp possible. The support staff is divided into two teams and goes through various rotations, including setting up camper stations (archery, crafts, life skills, etc.) and basic facility care (dishes, restrooms, facility cleanup).

Other special events to supervise include Birthday Parties, Adventure Days, and fun activities for your team. Support Staff Leaders must have strong management and communication skills, be comfortable with giving fair but firm corrections as needed with the Camp Director present and be willing to work alongside your team on projects. Support Staff Coaches take turns in orchestrating nightly fun activities for the Support Staff team and manage the team until lights out. Support Staff Leaders lead best when each leader manages one team and communicates with the other what the needs are for the day.
